2017 Sagebrush Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain

The Region

Red Mountain AVA is located in the southeast corner of Washington state and is known as the state’s smallest wine region appellation.  The sandy loam soil of the region is high in calcium and alkaline with good air drainage and deeply rooted vines.  Area growers must irrigate due to minimal annual rainfall allowing better control of vine vigor and easement of vines into dormancy before winter.

Red Mountain

Red Mountain is relatively new to the fine wine industry.  The first wine pioneers to the region initially walked the land in the summer of 1972. They found a gently sloping hillside covered in sagebrush that had been largely overlooked by both early settlers and local indigenous peoples.  Sagebrush is an emblem of the mountain West. Its grey leaves and pale yellow inflorescences grows in communion with cheat grass, a wild grass with reddish hues giving Red Mountain its name.  Red Mountain wines express the region’s unique terroir with exceptional color and richness, while perfectly balancing fruit, tannin, and acidity. Experience the warmest grape growing region in Washington with wines from this critically acclaimed AVA.

The 2017 Sagebrush has fruit aromas of currant and blackberry. The medium body is composed of light acidity, dense tannins, and toasted oak with soft clove spice and dark chocolate. This complex wine has a very long finish and will age beautifully.
